Wearing Gucci certainly helps.
Sometimes all it takes for a once-frowned upon look to get a second chance is the right celebrity endorsement. For example, all it took was Donald Glover‘s front row look at yesterday’s Gucci Resort runway show in Florence, Italy for us to scrap everything we previously thought about “tourist style” and start fresh.
He’s got all the totems of those traversing the globe with just a backpack, a camera, and a freshly downloaded translation app: aggressively loud patterned shirt tucked into shorts, sneakers (not the ugly kind that were shown on the runway), and headgear. However, because he’s wearing the Gucci version, he makes this sort of tell tale look suddenly, totally cop-worthy. Bless up.
Then the Atlanta star hit the streets of Florence and was spottted again—this time by Vogue editor Virginia Smith—leaning in even harder to his “lost in Italy” style. The look was so fresh, so damn stylish, that we’re not even sure this isn’t some sort of cut scene from Master of None Italy-centric second season.
For tourist round two, Donald Glover wore a striped polo, some fish appliqué shorts from Gucci (the pants version cost $1,250), and the most classic tourist move ever: a camera worn around the neck. Of course, Glover steps it up a notch and has the most handsome leather case on his, so kudos, for making it work.
And there you have it. Add bad tourist to your list of possible summer looks, alongside normcore and Cool Teen™, of course.
