It might seem counterintuitive to pile on the denim layers when it’s hot out, but here’s one very good reason to try it out.

Save for the occasional runway look or Kanye West fit, the Canadian tuxedo has shifted away from the menswear spotlight in 2017 (see: the onslaught of track pants). But Big Sean knows that the 202-level look never really goes out of style, and wore it to dinner at Craig’s in West Hollywood this weekend in a very right-now way. Right now as in, when it’s 90-degrees outside.

For one, lightweight washed denim is way less stifling than jeans of the stiff, dark variety. Raw denim and sweaty thighs are a truly evil combination. For another, Big Sean also relied on a denim shirt instead of a jacket up top—and the loose fit of the shirt, and the way the rapper left it unbuttoned at the neck, only adds to the breeziness. Throw in some rips at the knees and a cuffed, ankle-baring hem on the pants, and he’s really maximized airflow.

There is a styling component here that’s also worth copping. That is, finishing the look with old school white sneakers, a swaggy pendant necklace, and a long braided belt. These are three things that’ll work hard for you in your wardrobe without dominating everything you wear them with, as Big Sean’s fit clearly demonstrates.

Here’s a way to cop this look from head-to-toe. Even better, summer sales means you can easily assemble it for under $400.
